Traveling can be an exciting and adventurous experience, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming at times. Essential oils can be a great way to alleviate stress and promote relaxation while on the go. In this blog post, we’ll explore the benefits of traveling with essential oils and provide tips on how to use them effectively.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that are obtained through distillation or mechanical methods. These oils contain the natural aroma and properties of the plant they are derived from, and have been used for thousands of years for their therapeutic benefits.
Why Travel With Essential Oils?
Traveling can be physically and emotionally demanding. Essential oils can help ease the stress of travel and promote relaxation. They can also be used to address common travel-related issues such as jet lag, motion sickness, and insect bites.
Tips For traveling With Essential Oils
1. Pack Wisely
When packing essential oils for travel, it’s important to choose oils that are versatile and can address multiple issues. Some great options include lavender (rest and relaxation), peppermint (energizing and supports your digestive system), lemon (fresh and cleansing), tea tree (cleansing, great for wound care), and of course Thieves (immune support powerhouse). If you are packing essential oils in your carry-on, make sure to adhere to the FAA guidelines regarding liquids.
2. Use A Diffuser
Small diffusers are a great way to enjoy the benefits of essential oils on the go. They work by dispersing the oils into the air, allowing you to breathe in the aroma and experience their therapeutic effects. I usually just grab my dew drop diffuser to take on the go. You can find a list of 10 inexpensive diffusers here. I love to diffuse in hotel rooms. We diffuse Thieves to clean the air in the room along with giving us all some great immune support. When it’s time to sleep, we love to diffuse lavender.
3. Apply Topically
Another way to use essential oils while traveling is to apply them topically. You can add a few drops of oil to a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil and use it as a massage oil or moisturizer. You can also apply oils directly to the skin, but make sure to dilute them properly first.
4. Use For Aromatherapy
You can also use essential oils for aromatherapy while traveling. Simply add a few drops of oil to a tissue or cotton ball and inhale deeply. You can also add a few drops of oil to a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam. Or, just inhale straight from the bottle! It’s super easy! This is a great way to use your essential oils when you are on the go and don’t have access to a diffuser.
5. Be Mindful Of Others
When using essential oils in public spaces, be mindful of those around you who may have sensitivities to strong scents. Use oils in moderation and avoid using them in confined spaces such as airplanes or buses. I’ve personally never had anyone complain about my use of essential oils in public spaces such as airplanes, but you just never know. I know I don’t appreciate strong perfume scents, maybe others don’t appreciate strong oil aromas lol.
