There are s a slew of emotions that come along with stressful times. And stressful times is definitely what we are in right now with this virus that’s basically putting the world on hold. I’m going to share with you some ways to manage feelings and emotions during stressful times. Managing feelings and emotions is so important, not only for yourself and your own sanity, but for those around you. Hopefully you can find some relief with these techniques and essential oils as well.
I picked these specific oils when I was standing, staring at my oil shelf. Sometimes, when I’m overwhelmed, I just don’t know what to do. It’s times like this when I just feel like specific oils are staring at me or standing out more than others. Seriously though. The oils I felt called to use for this are Release, Grounding, Inner Child, Acceptance, Harmony, Gratitude, and Present Time. All of those words felt like they were things I needed right now to help me manage my feelings and emotions during this stressful time. So, here’s what I did, and I suggest you trying too.
Release
I picked Release to release the frustration and sadness. Frustration with not being able to control what is going on. Frustration with the way life changed in a second. And the big frustration with kids not listening, frankly. Release the sadness of the condition of the world. The sadness of how our lives changed. The sadness that my kid is going to miss his 5th grade promotion and his award ceremony he was working so hard for. There’s the sadness that I can only see my mom through a window. What about sadness that my kid’s best friends are right next door and can yell to them but not go near them. Release is a relaxing blend that encourages you to let go of anger and frustration and negative emotions. It can promote harmony and balance when diffused. I’m applying this over my liver while breathing deeply and telling myself to let go of what I can’t control.
Grounding
Grounding to keep me understanding what’s going on and keep me grounded. To keep me at peace with life and the world around me. And keep me remembering this too shall pass and one day we will return to normal. Maybe a different normal? I don’t know, but it will go back to some sort of normal. Grounding is a relaxing and balancing blend. It calms emotional chaos. I’m applying this to the back of my neck while breathing deeply and telling myself this is the season we are in and that’s okay.
Inner Child
Inner Child to remind me to enjoy this time with my kids. Not to be afraid to build forts in the house with them instead of folding that load of laundry. To stay up a little extra, all piled into the bottom bunk reading books and laughing together. To play the games you don’t necessarily enjoy but that bring so much joy to their faces, especially during these times that are scary and confusing for them. Inner Child can be used to help you connect with your inner self. I’m applying this around my belly button/naval while breathing deeply and reminding myself to enjoy this time with my kids and to be a kid again with them.
Acceptance
Acceptance to accept that this is how it is for now. We may not have all the “fixins” (that’s my country side lol) for the dinner I planned, but we have a yummy dinner still. Even though we may not be able to go on the family vacation we had been looking forward to, we are here, together. This is just how it is now and I have to accept that. But maybe even more than that, this oil encourages feelings of self-worth. I know many of us are feeling like we are failing at things right now. Things like homeschooling our littles (I’m raising my hand). This is an uplifting oil that positively contributes to an introspective environment. I’m applying this over my heart while breathing deeply and telling myself I AM a good mother and I AM doing the best I can.
Harmony
Oh to live in harmony with people you’ve been inside a house with for 2-3 weeks straight with no break and no end in sight lol. I’m sure this is a tough one for many. I am personally really enjoying the time with my husband. He’s been fortunate enough to work from home during this. And I am loving that I get to see my kiddos more. But man, do these kids fight and argue. Every. Single. Day. It’s always something with them. But we are in this together (literally) and have to make the best of it together. Harmony essential oil supports emotional health and creates inner balance. I’m applying this to my forehead, as I’m breathing deeply and envisioning everyone getting along. I’m telling myself, we are all in this together. I might douse this on my kids later too.
Gratitude
Gratitude to remember to be grateful and thankful for what we do have. We have our health. We have a home we can isolate to. An abundance of food. We have lots of things to do to keep us entertained. And more than that, we have each other. Gratitude essential oil is helpful in fostering a grateful attitude. Bonus, it’s great for the skin too, so feel free to add this to your lotion/moisturizer. I’m applying this one behind my ears as I’m breathing deeply and saying what I’m grateful for today.
Present time
One day this too shall pass. One day this will all be a distant memory for us. And one day we will think back to this time and remember the closeness we felt. The forced togetherness. And when we do, we will miss it. We will miss when our kids are grown and wish we could have a week of quarantine with them again. Miss the slowness of life. We will miss the “just being”. So, this is to help focus on the present time, what we have now, and not focus on when this will be over. Present Time essential oil helps you refocus your thought to what’s going on now. I’m applying this one to my wrists as I’m breathing deeply and focusing on the day. Focusing on today, and today only.
Remember To Breathe
While you apply each of these, I encourage you to do it slowly. Breathe deeply. Open the bottle of oil, close your eyes and inhale the scents directly from the bottle before applying. Breathe in the oils and out the negative feelings. Think about what you are applying and why. Focus on what you are doing and the results you would like to see.
I like to apply these first thing in the morning. I feel it gets me off to a good start for the day. And you know what, if I need to repeat the process a time or two throughout the day, during an especially stressful day, I will. These oils are here for my support and I will use them as much as I feel I need them.
I hope you have this arsenal of powerful oils in your home so that you can use them to help manage feelings and emotions during this stressful time. And bonus, you will smell amazing, even if you haven’t gotten around to taking a shower today! 🙂
