Want to have some amazingly soft and moisturized skin? You have got to try this DIY body butter. It’s made with natural ingredients that do not contain any harsh chemicals so you can feel comfortable slathering this all over your body. FYI, so much of what we use on our skin is harmful to us, not this! This uses Frankincense and Lavender essential oils, both of which are great for the healthy appearance of skin without anything harmful!
These are super easy to make and I love that you can use different essential oils to personalize the scent or specific effect. I chose to use Lavender and Frankincense essential oils in mine. Lavender is awesome because it promotes relaxation and I usually apply this body butter after my work out and shower. It is full of antioxidants so is great for the skin (think aging and skin complexion). Frankincense helps to support healthy skin cells. It also supports healthy circulation in the body so it’s great after that strenuous workout.
I also wanted to mention the difference between raw/unrefined, and refined Shea butter. If you want all the benefits of the Shea butter (Contains vitamins A & E, anti-aging, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, etc) then you will want to use the raw or unrefined stuff. Refined Shea butter is processed using chemicals and during the process of “refining” the Shea butter loses some of its amazing natural properties. Along with that perfumes and preservatives are added to the refined version, so you will want to avoid the refined kind if you can.
Here’s what you need
½ C Organic Raw Shea Butter (I only had the one pictured on hand, but next time I’ll be using the raw stuff)
½ C Organic Coconut Oil
¼ C Grapeseed Oil (you can substitute this with almond oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, etc)
Essential Oil of your choice (I used 6 drops of each Lavender and Frankincense)
Here’s what you do
Melt the Shea butter and coconut oil (I melted mine in a glass bowl in the microwave).
Let cool for approximately 30 minutes
Mix in the grapeseed oil and essential oils
Put mixture in freezer until the oils start to solidify
Whip with hand mixer until smooth and fluffy (see photo above).
Transfer to glass jar. If you are giving this as a gift you can tie a pretty ribbon around it and label it.

Only a little bit of this body butter is needed at a time. It spreads very nicely over your skin so not much is needed. The pure essential oils (I use Young Living) don’t expire, but the grapeseed oil can go rancid so you only want to make a small batch to use at a time. These also make great gifts!
Still need your essential oils?
I do have to say one more time, I ONLY USE YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS. They are 100% pure. No pesticides touch the crops. There are no additives in the oils. No watering down. Distilled at the right time of year for the specific plant. They are distilled at the right temperature, for the right amount of time (no short cuts here). To read more about Young Living and their seed to seal guarantee go to www.seedtoseal.com and you will see why I only use them. PLUS, I cannot speak to the quality of other brands and can’t guarantee they will be any good at all.
