Hey! If you ask anyone who knows me, the will tell you I never go anywhere without lip balm. I’m addicted to the stuff. I go through tube after tube. And have tried probably every brand out there. I’ve come to realize that most store bought lip balms are filled with harsh chemicals, things I don’t want on my lips or to be ingesting. So I did some research and some experimenting and came up with an awesome DIY essential oil lip balm. I love these because they leave your lips hydrated and tasting great lol!
These are super fun because you can get creative and use just about any essential oil you think would be good. In the past I have made Peppermint, Lavender, and Lemon-Lime lip balms.
The one I am showing you today is a creamy orange and vanilla flavor. This may be my favorite so far.
I make these using organic beeswax and organic coconut oil and add whatever essential oil(s) that I think would be good. I wanted something a little different this time, so I added some pure vanilla extract.
Here is what you need:
2.5 Tblspn coconut oil
1.5 Tblspn beeswax
12 drops (or more if you like it to have a stronger scent/flavor) Young Living Essential Oil
2 drops pure vanilla extract
1 syringe (I use a baby medicine syringe that comes with the baby Tylenol)
You want to melt the coconut oil and beeswax together. You can either do this by placing a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water and stir until it melts together or by microwaving it. I had to microwave mine for about 2 minutes, stopping about halfway through to stir.
After the coconut and beeswax is melted, add your essential oil and if you are using vanilla add that as well. Stir. Then carefully use the medicine syringe to fill the lip balm containers. You will want to work quickly because it does start to solidify.
If you are giving these as gifts you may want to add a label to make it pretty and so the recipient will know exactly what it is. You can print them on Avery Labels or do it the easier and prettier way by going here for free printable labels. However, there isn’t currently an Orange Vanilla one on her website but if you want to make different flavors including Lemon+Lavender, Peppermint+Lemon, and Grapefruit+Orange then you can get those labels there.
