Got a stock pile of empty essential oil bottles? Same! These oils are precious. We all know that. Kinda like liquid gold, right? Let’s make sure we are getting every bit of essential oil out of them mkay? I’ve got 11 awesome ideas for you to reuse your empty bottles. And if you’ve been throwing them out, give these ideas a try first!
1. Bath Time
Take your empty bottles, remove the orifice reducer and the lid and add all parts to a container full of Epsom Salts. When it’s bath time, scoop out a cup or two and add to a warm bath to literally soak in all the goodness the essential oils have to offer. I like to let the bottles sit in the Epsom Salts for a few days so that the salts pull all the moisture out. Then when you are done, rinse the bottles again and let air dry for another amazing DIY I’ll be sharing with you towards the end of this post.
2. Capsule Bomb
Around here we like to support our bodies by ingesting the vitality oils. But it’s kinda time consuming making capsules every day, especially if we are in a hurry. So whatever I would put in the capsule I put in an empty essential oil bottle instead. For instance, for seasonal relieve we like to take a capsule with 2-3 drops each Lemon Vitality, Lavender Vitality, and Peppermint Vitality. Take an empty essential oil bottle and fill it 1/3 with each of those vitality oils. You will have an entire bottle premade of your seasonal support oils and from there you just add a few drops to your capsule, top with carrier oil and down the hatch it goes! No more mixing and blending as needed, because it’s already done for you.
3. Diffuser Bomb
Just like the capsule bomb, you can premix your favorite diffuser blends and add them to an empty essential oil bottle. My favorite go to diffuser blend is equal parts Peppermint and Joy. That’s my “happy blend” and also my go to blend when I’m just not sure what to diffuse. So I fill an empty bottle half with Peppermint and half with Joy and then its already premixed and ready to go to add to my diffuser. This is especially helpful if your diffuser blend contains even more oils because those take more time to add to the diffuser each time. As long as you are using an empty bottle that corresponds with the blend you are making, you don’t even need to fully empty it first.
4. Perfume Roller
Mix the perfect combination of your favorite essential oils into an empty bottle. Fill the rest of the way with vodka (I even like to add some pure cold pressed Mexican vanilla to mine), and pop on a roller top (you should have gotten one or two in your starter kit, depending on when you ordered your kit. The new ones come with two). Keep in your purse or where ever would be easy access to you and you have a perfume roller ready to go!
5. Thieves Household Cleaner
Fill a clean essential oil bottle up with some Thieves Household Cleaner and share with a friend. This is a great way to get the cleaner into the hands of your friends and family. They are going to fall in love with it just like you and I did!
6. Glow Serum
I sure hope you have been harnessing how amazing essential oils for your skin. Use an empty bottle to make an amazing skin serum. To a 5ml bottle add 15 drops Copaiba, 15 drops Lavender, 10 drops Frankincense, 10 drops Elemi, 5 drops Geranium and fill the rest of the way with organic jojoba or rosehip oil. You can either add a roller fitment to it or use a dropper (make sure to order the right size for the bottle you are using, they come in the 5ml size and the 15ml size).
7. Thieves Spray
Thieves spray out of stock? No worries, make your own. Add one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner to an empty bottle and fill the rest of the way with distilled vinegar. Add one of these colorful spray tops. Give a little swirl and spray away.
8. Room Spray
This is a great little pocket size air freshener you can take on the go or use in your car. Add your favorite essential oils to a 15ml bottle and take on the go. You can use these pretty colorful spray tops to make them fun. Here are some recipes for room sprays I have previously done, just reduce the amount.
9. Throat Spray
Use an empty 15ml bottle and add 1 tsp raw organic (preferably local) honey, 1 capful Thieves Mouthwash, 2 drops Lemon Vitality and fill the rest of the way with water. Add a spray top and you are done. The Thieves Mouthwash is cleaning, the lemon offers immune support and the honey is soothing.
10. Decorative Lights
This one may be one of my favorite things to do with empty essential oil bottles when you feel you have used every last drop. Take a string of white fairy lights and put them in your empty bottles. I removed the orifice reducer and cut out the very center piece and pushed the light through there. Then put the orifice reducer back in the bottle and voila! It was super easy. You can use the 15 mil bottles or the 5 mil bottles, remove the labels or keep them on.
Decorations
I also use my empty bottles for decorations lol. I filled this vase with them and it sits in my entry way by my Aria Diffuser. The two lanterns on the fireplace mantle are getting filled as well.
So there you have it. 11 awesome ways to reuse your empty diffuser bottles. Way better than sending them to the landfill!
**Note, to get the old labels off, simply pull them off. If there is any sticky residue left, use your Lemon essential oil! Add a drop of lemon to the outside of the bottle where the residue is and rub with your fingers and the goo will be gone!
